Ras Laffan

رأس لفان

What it is

A Qatari industrial city and port on the north-east coast, from which the bulk of Qatar's LNG is exported.

Why it moves price

Qatar is among the world's largest LNG exporters, and everything leaving Ras Laffan transits the Strait of Hormuz. The link is direct: tension in Hormuz is tension in the European and Asian gas markets, not only the oil market.

Tension is measured daily, not described

We track thirteen chokepoints and terminals, publish a daily tension score with its components and the reasoning behind each, and tie it to the prices that move with it.
